What is Adrenal Fatigue
Our adrenal glands are two small glands located on top of the kidneys. Their purpose is to help the body deal with stress. They produce many different hormones, one of which is cortisol. Cortisol is a good hormone when at normal levels. It helps our body deal with stress. However, with our fast-paced lifestyles today, stressors constantly bombard us. We were simply not meant to stay in this “flight or fight” mode for an extended period of time; and doing so is detrimental to our health. These constant stressors cause our adrenal glands to overproduce cortisol. Eventually, the adrenal glands are not able to mount an effective response to stress, and these excessive cortisol levels decrease to an ineffective level.
